I could try get my mind around a whole event and tell you how Oppi was this year. Or I could post a few of my pictures and tell you a little bit about them or what attracted me to the shot. Dare to be different. Yes, lets try. So look at the photographs, read the captions or don’t. its your choice.. Just let me know what you think about the format in the comments.
This photo is only cool because of Spacs Bicep. And the guy taking a photo of who knows what in the back right corner.
So I probably would have liked a longer lens for this. But after looking at it I think it pretty cool framed in chaos. Theres no need to blur anybody face, perfecto! You see a lot of men relieving themselves.
I took this photo after accusing the guy holding the phone of jumping the queue. Only to find out afterwards that he had used the “Samsung” queue. Smug mug & booya man show that a Samsung is the coolest thing to have at Oppi. It also meant you could shower. I think.
The fringe of a cold front meant strange weather for day 1 at Bewilderbeast. We even had a bit of rain. Not as many people around at this stage of the weekend.
One of the many wind storms blows a whole bunch of leaves and debris onto stage with Jet Black Camaro
I just liked this the moment I saw it in my viewfinder. Every time I look at it I can feel the bass from the speakers. weird, I know.
Nice cups ladies, they must be heavy.
Alex and the rest of the Boven bums set up camp In the road. using their campfire to deter motorists from driving into them. I really do have a lot of photos of Alex.
The man at burger perfect. If you have ordered food from this guy at any of the major SA festivals, you know why I took a photograph of him. Such a legend.
James Phillips stage and its Bewildered Beast.
Garth Barnes from CrashCarBurn
Fabian Sing from CrashCarBurn
I love the fact you can see through tunnels.. I tend to photograph it a lot. Oops.
This was the opening of Petroys act. Blues and Yellows always look nice.
Craig Goudge playing for Pestroy. Probably the first guitarist and live performer I ever photographed.
Francois van Coke playing for Fokofpolisiekar takes his mic to the audience.
People always do crazy thing when they see you have a camera, always so much better that way.
Secret police patrolling for drug dealers.
This Guys window was wide open.. Need I say more?
This airie fella and his buddies had their campsite raided on suspicion of drug dealing, and he fled the scene dressed as a regular rasta man. The next day I saw him sporting some koppi camouflage and grabbed a pic. Officially, this is not the same man I saw the previous day.
Cyrus cracking a beer. Boys and their toys.
I just liked the car.. I wont lie.
Couches are heavy to carry all the way from the campsite to the stages.
Lazy days are exactly what you need when the heat settles in.
I don’t know how much dust his scarf was stopping.
This was the area between food stalls in the main area. Perdy.
This beast danced under the light for hours, I can’t imagine where he found the energy. We saw him again later in the crowd for Jack Parrow.
These are part of the cleaning up staff who have to listen to the story’s of thousands of drunk people every night.
Sound desk for one of the smaller stages
Bittereinder take the stage, If you can handle Afrikaans I suggest you give these boys a listen. Probably the best South African performance I witnessed this year.
Another shot from the Bittereinder set.
This intoxicated fellow rashed me for a photo. He spoke “camera” pretty well.. I expect he will see this at some stage.
One of Jack Parrows Captain Morgan party crew. looking pretty while a tog films in the background.
Captain Morgan blasts shirts into the crown while Jack Parrow gets warmed up for the show. Hos Ja!
One of the gents from Shortstraw. Forgive me I’m bad with names.
Drunken “I love yous” in the campsite
Cooking in the campsite
It’s common to see the guns out when the sun’s out.
I can not believe people take cars like this to Koppi, seriously. End rant.
Catching some shade in the midday heat.
This is the back of the crowd who showed up to watch Shortstraw at the skellum stage.
Shortstraw back light battles
This guys face..
Another back light shot. I’m an addict..
I also have a lot of photographs of this man. You should smell his fingers.
Tyrone looks clean and slick. As usual.
ISO having a jam sesh on stage
ISO with some movement 🙂
I dont know who that is but he happened to look up, so I grabbed the shot. A little look into the press pit.
Sergio Vega – Deftones bassist
Chino Moreno – Deftones
Stephan Carpenter – Lead Guitar Deftones
Deftones. I will never forget that blue light.
A drinks flask and a Deftones fan climb up a tree.
A wider shot of Deftones
Its all about the crowd..
Ladies in the crowd. I’m glad I saw this shot 🙂
My tent after a really busy Oppikoppi, The time for bed had come.
So many photos and not a single flash fired.
Did you enjoy the new style of post with less story and more captions?
One things for sure, I look forward to next year. I think I have now gotten my sea legs for this event and will grab it by the horns in years to come.
