Nitro Circus Live has recently hit South Africa with shows in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. While at first glance it may seem like a bunch of clowns riding motorcycles, that couldn’t be further from the truth. This was a show that brings together some of the worlds greatest extreme sport athletes and throws them all onto a massive ramp with the intention to throw down massive tricks for the crowd. I managed to get in on the action that took place on Saturday the 22nd February at FNB stadium. This proved to be a real banger of a show with about 35000 people coming to witness the madness making it the biggest crowd the Nitro Circus crew has ever preformed for.
No matter what your particular choice of Xtreme poison, there was something for everybody. Anything from Barbie cars to bathtubs flew over the Giganta Ramp, and the array of other things with wheels flying through the air was quite spectacular. The Nitro Circus Live team then bumped up the show by doing some amazing combo trains which saw multiple riders doing massive tricks in one sequence. Theres no way to describe the way FNB Stadium erupted with cheer each time a rider landed one of the many massive stunts they had shoved up their sleeves. The whole show was completely mind blowing, but the highlight was definitely when Aaron “Wheels” Fotheringham who has been in a wheelchair since the age of 8 threw down a massive frontflip in his customized chair, truly amazing and inspiring. There is just so much that happened in this show to try and put it all into words.
And in a massive puff of smoke from fireworks and burn-outs the riders had waved goodbye and it was all over. Once the smoke and goosebumps settled I had to pick up what was left of my visual cortex and return to the real world.
What an amazing show.
